Cancer: It's Personal

March 3, 2012
Web posted by PAF

Cancer: It’s Personal, is a program that educates people living with cancer, their caregivers and healthcare professionals about personalized medicine in oncology. Advances in science are changing what we know about cancer. www.CancerItsPersonal.com helps those affected with cancer understand the role biomarkers play in the diagnosis, prognosis and clinical treatment of cancer.
Starting today, Pfizer Oncology is excited to introduce new content to the site, which can be found by visiting www.CancerItsPersonal.com and clicking on the Patient Education Center. The Center includes links to the following downloadable materials:

  • Personalized Medicine in Cancer: What I Need to Know: A video featuring Diane Blum, chief executive officer of the Lymphoma Research Foundation, who discusses advances in cancer care. The video also helps explain what patients might expect during a biomarker test, as well as what the results could mean for an individual.
  • Myths and Facts about Personalized Medicine: Explanations of seven common misconceptions about personalized medicine.
  • Biomarker Testing Process: A step-by-step chart illustrating what happens during a typical biomarker test.
  • Biomarker by Tumor Type Interactive Chart: An image of the human body, where a patient can learn about some known and some investigational biomarkers associated with various cancer types.
Previously available content will also be accessible in the Patient Education Center such as a personalized medicine fact sheet, a discussion guide to aid patients in their conversations with healthcare professionals and a snapshot of a sample treatment team who may be involved in cancer care.
We hope that you find these resources on www.CancerItsPersonal.com to be informative.

Sincerely,

Patient Advocate Foundation
